Dinner Mathematics in 2008
Pick the number of
times a week that you would like to have dinner out.
Multiply by 2.
Add 5.
Multiply by 50.
If you have already had your birthday this year
add 1758…If you haven’t, add 1757.
Now subtract the four-digit year that you were
born.
You should have a three-digit number. Tell me your three-digit number.
I can tell you how many times per week you would
like to have dinner out.
Solution:
(2x+5)*50 +
1758-1981 = 100x + 250 + 1758 – 1981 = three-digit number
For example,
if x=3 and your birthday has passed and you were born in 1981, then
three-digit number is 327. Since 250 +
1758 = 2008, you know 2008-1981 is the person’s age and it is exactly
the last two digits of the three digit number. You
can then divide 300 by 100 to get the number of times a week you would
like to go out to dinner.
